Better Start Literacy Approach (BSLA) is an integrated classroom literacy programme for young children, founded at the University of Canterbury and delivered to teachers across New Zealand and internationally.
Our role within the programme centres on the design and manufacture of its visual and physical components. These range from individual letter tiles to complex, purpose-built display boxes, each developed to support clarity, consistency, and ease of use in the classroom.
The scale and repetition required by the programme have driven the development of new manufacturing techniques, blending digital fabrication with traditional craft practices to achieve precision, durability, and visual coherence at volume.
